It is our responsibility to give those younger than us a good role model to look up to. Unfortunately, that isn't always easy to accomplish.
edit Steps
- 1Don't look down on them. Just because they are younger than you doesn't mean that they are always wrong. Often, because they are younger, their world view isn't fully set, so they can see some options to a problem that you can't spot.
- 2Don't use obscenities. Not only is this a good idea around the kids, but if you say it in private, it will come out in public.
- 3Don't talk down to them. This step especially applies to really young kids, ages 0-4. Just because they can't fully speak yet, don't use improper grammar. It will actually hinder their learning process, because they will learn to speak this way.
- 4Don't do illegal things. Even if it's not technically illegal, still don't do it. Even if you think no one's seeing, you will eventually be caught.
- 5Do as you say. For a good role model, the phrase 'Do as I say, not as I do' should never apply. Show the kids how to behave by example.
